Mine Accidents & Safety at Bisbee, Arizona with Richard W. Graeme IV
Saturday, April 13, 2024, 11:00 am – MST
Underground mining can be a treacherous profession. In the 98 years of mining at Bisbee, Arizona well over 350 miners were killed and thousands injured. During the early years, the mines had relatively few accidents, but at the beginning of the twentieth century, the number of accidents rapidly accelerated until it reached a peak of a miner being killed approximately every three weeks. In response, the Copper Queen Consolidated Mining Company developed an enlightened mine safety program in the Southwest. Under a united vision, miners, their families, and the mining company created a lasting and successful safe working environment. Richard W. Graeme IV was born in Bisbee, Arizona. He has been teaching for 25 years in the Sierra Vista, Arizona area. During this time Richard has authored and co-authored several books and articles including, “The Mineralogy of Bisbee, Arizona Volumes 1 and 2,” “7-Bells: Mine Accidents at Bisbee, Arizona,” and “Forgotten Caves of Bisbee, Arizona.” This online program is free, but space is limited. To register, visit: https://bit.ly/BisbeeOnline04132024
